Region
The Alentejo Demarcated Region was only founded in 1988, however there are already traces of wine culture since Roman times, namely in the use of clay pots, which are still used today. Alentejo means “beyond the Tagus River” and it is this river that delimits the region to the north. This flat, low-altitude region has extensive plantations of several hundred hectares of vines. The intense heat that is felt here in the summer, makes the grapes reach excellent maturation, with a lot of concentration. The wines are very aromatic and smooth and have already achieved a considerable international reputation.
